The Ethiopian Academy of Sciences celebrated its 7th founding Anniversary with different programs on Monday, March 27, 2009 at its Headquarters. Its Headquarters used to be the residence of Belaten Geta Hiruy Weldeselassie who was a well-known writer and the first Foreign Minister of Ethiopia. In his welcoming speech, EAS President, Prof. Tsige Gebre-Mariamstressed the importance of launching an Arts and Science Center. The Ethiopian Academy of Sciences is an autonomous, non-profit, non-governmental organization established in March 2010 by a group of prominent scholars who wish to promote the Sciences to flourish and bring about development, prosperity and improved health services for the people(s) of Ethiopia. The Academy aims to advance the development of all the sciences, including the natural sciences, mathematics, the health sciences, agricultural sciences, engineering, social sciences and humanities, fine arts and letters.
